La Sagrada Familia
Descriptions of the Sagrada Familia normally make good use of the word “organic” and we’ll make no exception. Look out for lots of organic forms all lovingly reproduced in stone (originally) and concrete (more modern additions). La Sagrada Familia is not a cathedral, but simply a large church intended for one of Barcelona's wealthier areas. Scheduled to be finished in 2020 it is probably the world's most visited building site.
Casa Mila (La Pedrera)
Gaudi's classic apartment building. In truth, probably the best example of his work in Barcelona..
Casa Batllo
Probably the strangest building in Barcelona. By Gaudi, who else? Remember those crazy houses from B Horror Movies, which devour their occupants? Well, that’s more or less what Casa Batllo looks like, only with an oversized halibut where the roof should be.
The Cathedral
Gothic Cathedral. The nice, leafy cloisters are pleasant enough. The facade is normally under some form of scaffolding. Check out the post cards for an artist's impression of what's underneath.
La Boqueria
The largest and most famous market in Barcelona with a huge variety of fresh food. An institution and well worth a visit. From time-to-time new stalls set up with more exotic fares, such as edible insects! It's just off Las Ramblas in the Barcelona´s Barrio Gotico, so be careful!
Cosmo Caixa
Barcelona's new science museum, complete with its own mini rain forest. Great for the kids as there are loads of buttons to press and levers to pull. A slightly humbling experience for adults unless explaining photosynthesis and Newton's third law of motion is your speciality.
The Forum
Barcelona's answer to London's Millenium Dome. Ugly. For some unknown reason the Bus Turistic has a route which stops here.
Parc Güell
Originally planned as a super-expensive residential development, the developers got no further than landscaping the terrain. That they had chosen Anton Gaudi to do the work means they ended up creating one of Europe's more surreal public parks.Great views over Barcelona, if the pollution levels are low.
Picasso Museum.
Housed in a renovated townhouse in the fashionable Born area, The Museum lacks any of Picasso’s major artworks but does have many interesting pieces from his adolescence and old age.
